Marriage isn’t always a walk in the park. It’s a commitment that takes work from both sides. While each relationship looks different, there are common reasons why women tend to leave their husbands.

Let’s break down the 11 most common reasons why wives leave their spouses to hopefully help mend or strengthen their relationship.

    Lack of Communication

In any relationship, clear communication serves as a key foundation and is often cited as one of the most important aspects. Good communication ensures that both partners are always on the same page.

Even if the couple isn’t on the same page, having open communication allows for partners to feel comfortable expressing their needs and wants, which can help avoid misunderstandings, unresolved issues, and resentment.

    Cheating

There is probably nothing worse than a partner being cheated on. Whether emotionally or physically, cheating can cause significant, sometimes irreparable, damage to a marriage.

Many women consider cheating to be the death of a relationship because they believe that trust can never be repaired. According to a recent study in Forbes, 60 percent of couples cite infidelity as a primary reason for their divorce.

    No Longer Feeling Respected

In most relationships, partners want to feel respected. One way to achieve this is by ensuring that both partners feel equally valued and respected.

When a woman begins to feel more like a caregiver or housekeeper, problems start to surface. Resentment builds as she perceives disrespect and lack of support from her partner.

    Financial Stress

Money issues will put a strain on any relationship. Sometimes, financial stress can be too much for a marriage, which creates conflicts that pull a marriage apart.

According to the National Library of Medicine, financial issues are one of the most common reasons for divorce. Disagreements and conflict about debt, spending habits, saving, and incompatible financial goals are factors behind these divorces.

Seeing a future together is important because it means that a couple shares similar goals in life. However, different life goals or values can be roadblocks that cause a marriage to suffer rather than flourish.

When life goals or values are not aligned, unsolvable fundamental incompatibilities will lead to the end of a marriage.

    Emotional or Physical Abuse

Any form of abuse is unacceptable in any relationship. Unfortunately, both physical and emotional abuse occur in some relationships.

Many women who find themselves in these types of situations understand that they should not tolerate such behavior and choose to end their marriage to protect themselves.

    Addiction

Addictions to substances, gambling, or other vices can weigh heavily on any relationship, leading to financial hardships, conflicts, and abuse that are difficult to overcome.

While addiction is a form of mental illness, many individuals, both men and women, may choose to leave a relationship when they find themselves unable to bear the burden of their partner’s issues.

    Loss of Individuality

Most people don’t enjoy being alone, but no one wants to lose his or her sense of self. Once a romantic partner feels they have lost themselves in a relationship–no longer hanging out with friends, enjoying activities they used to do, or pursuing personal goals–it is hard for them to feel that the relationship is worth it.

When left unaddressed, women tend to leave their husbands to rediscover themselves and gain that sense of identity again.

    Not Addressing Problems

Everyone makes mistakes and will inevitably hurt their partner’s feelings. How individuals deal with these problems will either lead to the success or demise of a relationship.

When past issues are neglected, the wounds will never heal. Similar mistakes or dismissal of addressing them will be like salt in the wound and put more strain on a relationship.

    Refusing Help or Counseling

While it can be difficult to address mistakes or issues in a relationship, seeking help or counseling can be a great move. However, refusing to do so could lead to one partner feeling like the end of the relationship is approaching.

One partner might feel that the other no longer expresses interest in the relationship and prioritizes comfort over love. This can build resentment that severs whatever remains of the bond.

    Fading Feelings

Sometimes, that special feeling of love simply fades over time as people grow apart and desire different things.

While it can be difficult to let go of someone who has been there for a long period of time, it is more selfish to hold on rather than to admit that it is time to move on before something like infidelity happens.
